A Very Merry Birthday! by AbigailLarson A Very Merry Birthday! by AbigailLarson
The Visual Arts Center is celebrating their 50th birthday this year! [link]
They asked for a Mad Tea Party themed design for the flyers, and I was of course more than happy to oblige.

~

This piece was drawn in pencil and colored in Photoshop. The texture was applied with watercolors.

There's a beautiful rawness to your linework that comes off as slightly sinister. Like everything isn't what it seems and something is just a bit off. I love how expressive you are with it. Its really gorgeous.

Is that an interpretation of Alice or an OC of your own design? It looks amazing either way. (massive Lewis Carroll fan)

It is, in the Disney movie. But this event was an actual birthday celebration, so they called it "A Very Merry Birthday" playing off the Wonderland theme :)

So when you go to colour your line work, do you set the lineart layer to multiply or use a different technique? :)

I use levels to darken the lines, then I just select the areas to color with the lasso or magic wand, then fill them :D
