H.P. Lovecraft by AbigailLarson H.P. Lovecraft by AbigailLarson
The delightful Mister Lovecraft. My personal favorite in the series thus far, and the most fun.
Drawn traditionally and then colored in Photoshop, loosely based on this lovely stock image: [link]

I think this is going to be the last of my personal pieces for a while. I've still got W. Irving and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle on my list, but I have a feeling it'll be a while before I have time for them.

Used as cover art for the Myths and Legend eZine: [link]

Ohhhhhh, details... I love details.

The rats and the tentacle doing the writing and the beetles under the glass (btw, that sting on the large beetle doesn't look healthy at all)  ...  and that one claw looks like even the armchair was having a really bad identity crisis.

Both the thing under the floor boards and the one behind the wall at the left remind be a bit of Oogie Boogie from Nightmare before Christmas.

Maybe the creepies/saddest thing is how the room (and Lovecraft himself, for that matter) look so run-down: rickety little chair, partly broken oil lamp, patches on the clothing and the arm-chair. Poor man. You'd think the father of modern SciFi would have made a bit more money out of all his weirdness.

Oh no.
When I opened up THE NECRONOMICON and chanted, "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn"...I didn't mean for Cthulhu to pop out of the floor and the walls! :omg:

This is amazing and what a tribute to one of the most fantastic horror authors of our time.

Lovecraft, the master of horror.

They really need to make more movies based on his novels

Can you believe Del toro was supposed to direct "In the Mountains of Madness" but got canned?.......it just grinds my gears

For some reason, almost all movies based on his works have been utter crap, have you ever seen the adaptation of "From Beyond"? Ugh!

The only movie based on his works that I genuinely liked was "In the mouth of Madness"  by John Carpenter

it takes elements from a few of his stories and mixes them together in this movie.  It has it's cheesy moments, but for the most part it was pretty damn creepy

it's about an insurance investigator who tries to find an author of the world's best-selling horror novels after he disappeared and figures out that the author can write his own reality.  So all of the horrors in the books manifest in our world.

Ahhh I do believe I've used this picture in my collection a few times when discussing Lovecraft or cosmic horror over on 4chan the past few years. I do love how frustrated and underwhelmed he looks with the whole ordeal going on around him.

One of my favorite authors of all time, and this view of his inner muse is amazing (horrific?).  You have a great style, and I really like this piece.  You can really see the despair and exhaustion in his face.

How beautiful and weird, and simply... tentacular. Howard would be proud. I especially like the wispy line style, that looks very free and airy but still gives weight to things like the curtains and the tentacles. I'd love to own a print, if possible.

Hi. I run a magazine called Surreal Grotesque and for October we are doing a tribute to Lovecraft issue. I love your art and I was wondering if you would let us use some of your pictures for that issue. All credit would remain with you and I could run a small bio. You can see the magazine here: www.surrealgrotesque.com. We are legit and also have a book on Amazon called: Aliens, Sex and Sociopaths. Unfortunately I can’t pay for art right now, all I can offer is exposure, we do have over 1000 fans on Facebook. Thank you for your time. Let me know what you think or email me at Surrealgrotesque77@hotmail.com.
