The Erl-King by AbigailLarson The Erl-King by AbigailLarson
I'm just getting into Angela Carter's "Bloody Chamber" and the Erl-King story really stood out to me. I have several pieces from that story, and I can't recommend Ms. Carter's work strongly enough. She gets into the gritty, dirty, carnal corners of fairytales.

Ink, watercolor, Photoshop

I love that poem and your drawings completely encompasses the mood in it. I haven't heard of "The Bloody Chamber" though. I might have just to look for this...um... short story collection(?).

You must! It's rather bawdy, but so, so good!

Just seeing the title of this piece immediately reminded me of that story. Great illustration for a great story :>

I'm not familiar with Angela Carter's version, but I remember hearing a recording of the old poem when I was in elementary school.  Chilling!

Oh man! Company of Wolves is my favorite version of Red Ridding Hood. I've been meaning to get my hands on some of Angela Carter's other stories, but I never seem to do it. I might have to now.

Sweet baby jeebus. I read the same thing for my fairytales class, and it is my favorite story out of the entire three books we've read so far. I myself have been sketching out ideas to draw his caged 'birds' in a series when ever my schooling lets me.

I remember at one time wanting to design an Erl-King to make into a stuffed toy like thing.  Never have...
