The Family in Dunwich by AbigailLarson The Family in Dunwich by AbigailLarson
Based on one of H.P. Lovecraft's finest works, "The Dunwich Horror," I've depicted the lovely young Whateley family spending some quality time reading the Necronomicon <3
I decided to leave father out of the picture for... reasons.

I made this piece for a Lovecraft-inspired show at Finders Creepers Gallery.

~

This piece was made with pencil, watercolor, and digital media.

A beautiful image. You've made Lavinia Whateley more attractive than I had imagined her, which makes the picture even more pleasant. :) (Smile)

I love this piece! Actually, ALL of your work on here is phenomenal, but "The Dunwich Horror" is one of my all-time favorite Lovecraft stories, and your take on it is perfectly executed and adorably macabre.

The father is present...I think he's the frame! :D Gorgeous rendering--and you gave this doomed family a beautiful moment of harmony which I would not have thought possible! Well done!!!

This is amazing. It manages to make both an eerie statement by including the thoroughly monstrous spawn of Yog-Sothoth, and a heartwarming one by depicting them as a normal family. I very much understand why the father isn't there, though.

I have fallen in love with your style.
And your textures.
And composition.
...And use of color.

As I am already a huge fan of your subject matter, I think you have a new biggest fan.

Lol! I like to see humour in Lovecraft-inspired art, because Lovecraft had great sense of humour but a lot of art which is dedicated to his works is too serious.
And I so love "The Dunwich Horror". A touching family, wasn't it?

Beautiful colors, very sepiaish. You know, I actually have not read anything Lovecraft related. When you posted something about Lovecraft before, I decided I might should look into it. I recently bought a big complete collection of his works. What do you recommend to start?

Ooh, excellent! Well, I started with his early works, and made my way to his last, but my top picks are:

The Alchemist
Dreams in the Witch House
Shadow Over Innsmouth
The Thing on the Doorstep
Dunwich Horror
The Colour Out of Space
The Picture in the House
The Rats in the Walls
The Moon-Bog
At the Mountains of Madness

Honestly, I have really enjoyed reading every one of his stories, but those are definitely tops :D
The Cthulhu Mythos stories are a bit heavy with mythology, so I'd save those for once you get a taste of his writing style, but they're great too!
