I've always thought of Elphie as a wrongly convicted character. All she wanted was her sister's shoes, and technically, being the Wicked Witch of the East's sister, she should've got 'em. And then Glinda steals the shoes off of the Wicked Witch of the East's shoes, gives them to a complete and total stranger and sends said stranger on a wild goose chase rather than just telling her you could just click three times and say, "There's no place like home" and BOOM! you're there.
